Delina Fico (Albania)
In the last twenty-seven years, Delina has worked extensively with local, regional and international non-governmental organizations, companies, academic institutions, and intra-governmental agencies in the Western Balkans, Central and Eastern Europe, Caucuses, Central Asia, and the U.S. including Chemonics International, World Learning for International Development, UN Women, the Urgent Action Fund for Women’s Human Rights, Open Society Institute, and the New School for Social Research. Since 2008, she serves as the Director of Civil Society Programs at East-West Management Institute Inc. (EWMI), developing and supervising international development programs that focus on civil society, community development, and gender equality and social inclusion across the world, including in Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, North Macedonia, Uganda, and Zimbabwe.
Delina is the co-founder of several leading women’s rights groups and services in Albania, including the women’s association “Refleksione”, the Counselling Center for Women and Girls, the Women’s Center (now the Gender Alliance for Development Center”) and currently serves as the Board Chair for the Albanian Women’s Empowerment Network, the Counseling Center for Women and Girls, and Albania Community Assist. Delina has strongly supported and supports LGBTI rights in Albania and serves on the Board of the Shelter for LGBTI Persons.
In Kosova, Delina led the USAID-funded Women’s Economic and Political Empowerment Program that contributed to strengthen Kosova Women’s Network and to establish Kosova Business Women’s Network. Delina has served as a Board member in a number of NGOs and NGO networks in Albania, Kosovo, and the U.S., including the Network of East West Women (NEWW), Open Society Foundation for Albania, and Kosova Women’s Network.
Delina holds a MA in Political Science and a MS in Nonprofit Management both from the New School University in New York City. She has taught at Tirana University in Albania and New York University in New York and has published in various magazines and publications on gender issues, feminism, and civil society development.
