Project: Lesley’s List Gender Equality Checklist
Type: Web Application
Lesley’s List, developed in partnership with Shevolution, is a digital checklist software to help NGOs easily create and implement gender mainstreaming plans.
The Challenge
Donors and practitioners are increasingly committed to incorporating tangible gender equality plans in all forms of work in the NGO sector, regardless of geography or issue focus. It’s not enough simply to state, “We shall mainstream gender”.
Donors will expect to see how the rights of women and girls, gender equality, and inclusion are integrated into any proposal with a project-specific gender equality plan, and an actionable approach to implement and assess its impact. However, NGOs don’t always know how to make such plans, implement them, or measure progress.
The Solution
Lesley’s List is a simple, intuitive, and free online tool that will help NGOs and other stakeholders ask the right questions, create actionable evaluation frameworks, and assist with the implementation and follow-up on gender equality action plans.
This will enable an organization to tailor its gender mainstreaming plans to suit the individual context and empower an NGO of any size or technical capacity to demonstrate it has planned which steps to take, who will be responsible for implementation, what budget and resources are needed, and how to track progress.
Advancing Gender Equality Standards
Lesley’s List will contribute to attaining the United Nations’ 17 Sustainable Development Goals, specifically UNSDG5, Gender Equality.
All checklists, action plans, and implementation plans will conform with EU, USAID, and other donor standards.
We chose the name Lesley’s List to honor Gender equality specialist Lesley Abdela, the originator of the concept. She created Lesley’s List to bring her learned experience to any NGO of any size – to continue to advance the cause of gender equality worldwide.
Lesley is the globally recognized, award-winning founder of Shevolution Consultancy. Over her extensive career she has completed more than 200 expert missions in 50 countries. Donors and clients include IGOs, NGOs, media, and private sector companies, e.g. Sida, the EU, EC, USAID, the British Council, NATO, The Inter-Parliamentary Union, UK FCDO, EBRD (European Bank for Reconstruction and Development), Project Liberty at Kennedy School of Government Harvard University, and more.
